A SMART Move for Your IT Staff?
"75% of projects that fail are due to the failure of
having properly skilled people working on the project."
~Gartner Research
SQLSoft+ recently launched its SQLSoft+ Skills Assessment tool and with this tool,
SQLSoft+ again moves toward a complete IT blended learning solution. The SQLSoft+ Skills Assessment process is a subjective skills assessment tool that enables
an IT management staff to quickly and cost effectively assess their team's IT
skills for:
- Upcoming projects
- Initial and upgrade training
- New hire employment
- Employee retention
What is a Subjective Based Assessment? This style of assessment focuses
more on determining the comfort level of the individual based on their experiences
within the skill being assessed. Results can then be determined based on dropdown
lists with several skill ratings to select from each with appropriate verbiage
representing general skill levels. We have found that, when prepared and properly
communicated, the assessment provides a positive message that the employer cares
about education and career planning. We have also received a better participation
rate because it is non-threatening and can be positioned as a team building
exercise as well as skills assessment and training.
SQLSoft+ recently completed an assessment with a 99% assessment return rate.
The information gathered honestly surprised the management team! At the completion
of the assessment, certain areas where the team thought they were strong were
identified as needing additional focus and training. SQLSoft+ built a training
plan that will bring their weak areas up to speed and reinforce strong areas
of the team.
With IT budgets being stretched to the limit—and IT departments, managers
and teams tasked to do more with less—the SQLSoft+ Skills Skills Assessment
process simply makes sense. It is a proven fact in the IT arena that the right
skills in the appropriate areas and proper training saves money, allowing better
employee and team flexibility, all leading to a superior department and direct
reflection on the company's bottom line.
